Shahbaz Sharif should also be arrested: PAT

Commenting on the arrest of Hamza Shahbaz, PAT Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur has said that the so-called scion of the Sharif family was bound to come to the jail. He demanded that Shahbaz Sharif should also be apprehended for his role in the Model Town tragedy. He said that the killers and looters become part of the legislatures to get relief in the garb of democracy. He said that such privileges as the production orders should be done away with. He said that the leadership of the political parties is in the hands of the mafias, stating that they do not deserve any relief or legal concession.

Khurram Nawaz Gandapur made these remarks while addressing the meeting of the central Core Committee. He said that MQI and PAT will observe the fifth anniversary of Model Town tragedy. He said that the committee has forwarded the recommendations to Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri in this regard regarding the nature of functions and program to be held. He said that the schedule will be announced after the approval of Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. He, however, made it clear that a new line of action will be announced on the 17th of June spelling the way forward to seek justice for the families of the martyrs.

Brig. (r ) Iqbal Ahmad Khan, Noorullah Siddiqui, Jawad Hamid, Syed Altaf Hussain Shah Gilani, Rafique Najam, Rana Muhammad Idrees, Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate, Prof Dr Khan Muhammad Malik, Raja Zahid Mahmood, Ayesha Mubashar, Chaudrhy Irfan Yousaf, Qasim Mansoor Awan, and other leaders were present in the meeting.

Naeem-ud-Din Chaudhry Advocate, spokesperson for the affairs related to Model Town tragedy, briefed the participants about the status of various appeals pending before the courts. The meeting expressed its grave concern on the sentences handed down to 107 workers on a fake case by the anti-terrorism court in Sargodha.

Jawad Hamid, while speaking on the occasion, questioned the merit of the verdict, stating that those who killed the innocent people remain at large, whereas those who protested the barbarism were booked in fake cases and handed down the punishment. He said that we would announce the next phase of our struggle for justice on the completion of five years since the tragedy was perpetrated.
