Minhaj University

Addressing the closing session of the First International Linguistics and Language Technologies Conference 2025 held at Minhaj University Lahore, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that language is not merely a means of expression; rather, it represents the identity of civilization, culture, and history. He stated that modern technology has opened new avenues for the promotion, preservation, and research of languages. The theme of the conference was “Intellectual Linkages Between the Past and the Present.”
He explained that there exists a deep intellectual and scholarly continuity between modern corpus linguistics, artificial intelligence–based digital tools, and the classical Islamic scholarly tradition, particularly the practice of hashiya (marginal commentary). He clarified that digital annotation, corpus mapping, and computational analysis are, in fact, an extension of the centuries-old research tradition of Islamic scholarship.
Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri emphasized that in the contemporary digital era, the interconnection between linguistics and technology has become indispensable. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and digital data have given a new dimension to the study of languages. He stressed that providing effective digital representation to Urdu, along with all regional languages, is one of the most pressing needs of our time.
Appreciating the role of Minhaj University Lahore and Minhaj-ul-Quran International, he announced that Minhaj University Lahore will introduce corpus research and artificial intelligence–based courses across all language-related degree programs. This initiative aims to equip students with modern computational skills alongside a strong foundation in classical scholarship. He noted that this integration of traditional knowledge and modern technology is essential for producing researchers and scholars of international standards.
At the conclusion of the conference, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, along with Registrar Minhaj University Lahore Professor Dr. Khurram Shehzad and Director CRC and Head of the School of English Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Bhatti, distributed shields and certificates among distinguished international and national speakers and panelists.
The conference was also addressed by Professor Dr. Kaibo Hu, Professor Marina Flaska, Dr. Anya Lian, Dr. Dieter Bohn, Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Dr. Saima Waheed, Dr. Maria Isabel, Dr. Samira Sarfraz, Dr. Arshad Ali Khan, Professor Dr. Asim Mahmood, Dr. Akhtar Abbas, and Dr. Muhammad Islam.
