Who Gave and Why Was Permission Granted to Export Sugar? Pakistan Awami Tehreek

Chaudhry Qamar Abbas Dhoul, President of Pakistan Awami Tehreek South Punjab, has raised serious concerns, stating that once farmers sell all their sugarcane to sugar mills, the price of sugar surges. He noted that a farmer doesn’t earn from an entire maund (approximately 40 kg) of sugarcane what sugar mill owners earn from just 2 kilograms of sugar.

He questioned the authorities, asking: who granted permission for the export of sugar, and for what reason? He alleged that mafias within the government are devaluing farmers and paralyzing the agricultural sector in order to increase reliance on imports.

He said that in an agricultural country like Pakistan, farmers are left in tears. Whatever remains of the economy is being eroded by strikes from industrialists and traders. “How can economic policies be fruitful when they are rejected by the very industrialists, traders, and farmers of the country?” he asked.

He lamented that every issue is debated in the assemblies except for the real problems of the public, laborers, and farmers. Pakistan is rapidly heading toward a water and food crisis, yet there appears to be no policy in sight to resolve these issues.
