Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, delivered an inspiring sermon on the topic of Akhlaq-e-Mustafa (The Character of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH) during the Friday prayers at Jamia Sheikh-ul-Islam.
Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri explained that the term Akhlaq refers to one's nature and temperament. He cited the Holy Quran where Allah Almighty describes the noble character of His beloved Prophet (PBUH) in Surah Al-A'raf (7:199), saying:
“Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.”
Dr. Qadri elaborated that the essence of good character is for a person to gather all virtuous traits within themselves. What is seen by the eyes is khilqat (physical appearance), while what is seen by the heart is khulq (character). He further explained that, according to Sufis, a person is hidden by their physical form, but it is their character that makes them known to others.
He also quoted Sayyida Aisha (RA), who said, "The character of the Prophet (PBUH) is the Quran." Scholars and Hadith experts have elaborated that just as the meanings and insights of the Quran have no limit, so too does the character and conduct of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) have no boundaries.
Dr. Qadri continued by highlighting that the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was a complete embodiment of mercy, compassion, truthfulness, forgiveness, humility, justice, and kindness. His interactions with enemies were marked by gentleness, with slaves he showed equality, with children he expressed love, with women he demonstrated respect, and he supported every oppressed person.
Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri emphasized that the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaches us that good character is the pathway to spiritual elevation and the ultimate pleasure of Allah.
