Statement by Chairman Supreme Council Minhaj-ul-Quran International on International Mountain Day
Allah, the Lord of Glory, has declared the treasures beneath mountains to be greatly blessed

Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, stated on the occasion of International Mountain Day that mountains are nature's invaluable gift to humanity. He said that mountains are a source of survival, biodiversity, food, and prosperity for humanity as well as animals and all creatures. Allah, the Lord of Glory, has hidden treasures of minerals within mountains according to the principle "Man shall have nothing but what he strives for," and these treasures have been declared greatly blessed. Mountains are not only essential for ecological balance but also an important source of economic and financial stability for nations and countries.
Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri noted that the United Nations has chosen the theme for this year's International Mountain Day as "Mountains: Guarantors of Water, Food, and Employment." There is no doubt that mountains are essential for the protection of the earth and the survival of life.
He stated that approximately 15 percent of the world's population is directly dependent on mountains. For the non-Islamic world, mountains may merely be a source of food, ecological balance, and economic stability, but for the Islamic world, the protection, cleanliness, and care of mountains is also a religious requirement. In Surah An-Naba, Allah, the Lord of Glory, stated: "Have We not made the earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?"
He emphasized that the Holy Quran has made the existence of mountains a means of stabilizing the earth so that human life can carry out its daily affairs without obstruction.
He observed that along with the world's population, tourism is also increasing. While tourism brings financial benefits to various countries, unregulated human movement is also increasing pollution, which is harmful to mountain life.
He stated that it has become essential to raise awareness for mountain conservation at governmental, regional, and individual levels.
Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri remarked that mountains, by their very structure, beautify the earth and enhance human intellect and insight. By bestowing mountains, Allah, the Lord of Glory, has made humanity conscious of this unexpected blessing.
He stated that uncontrolled population growth, rapidly expanding tourism, deforestation, environmental pollution, and extraordinary glacier melting due to global warming are damaging the mountain ecosystem. The protection of this invaluable treasure of nature is, in reality, the protection of life itself.
