President of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, has stated that the mental, psychological, and social problems faced by people in the modern age have their true and lasting solutions in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Addressing the Friday congregation at Jamy Shaykh-ul-Islam, Model Town, Lahore, he said that true peace does not lie in wealth, fame, or worldly success, but in the remembrance of Allah.
Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the blessed life (Seerah) of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a complete code of life for humanity. Whether it is today’s youth or any individual suffering from mental stress, the teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ are just as effective today as they were in the past. He explained that what the modern world today presents under the name of “mindfulness” was granted by Islam centuries ago in the form of presence of heart, meditation (muraqabah), and self-accountability (muhasabah).
He further stated that according to modern research, millions of people worldwide suffer from depression and mental stress. Unfortunately, in our society mental illness is often perceived as a weakness, which deprives many people of proper treatment. He emphasized that education about mental health should be introduced at the school level, and that incorporating meditation into daily life has become an urgent need of the time.
In the light of Islamic teachings, he said that purification of the self (tazkiyah al-nafs) refines and elevates human personality. Meditation and self-accountability help individuals gain control over their thoughts, emotions, and decisions. Modern neuroscience also confirms that meditation has positive effects on the brain, reducing mental stress, improving sleep, and strengthening decision-making abilities.
Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri advised that negative thoughts should not be taken as reality, as they are often deceptions of the ego. Islam teaches people to think on the basis of facts and evidence rather than illusions and unfounded fears.
Concluding his address, he spoke about the negative effects of excessive use of social media, saying that its misuse leads to mental confusion and unrest. True success lies in strengthening one’s relationship with Allah and adopting a conscious and mindful way of life.
A large number of leaders, workers, devotees, and members of the public of Minhaj-ul-Quran from across the country and abroad attended the Friday congregation. At the conclusion of the gathering, Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri offered a special prayer for the country, the Muslim Ummah, and the entire Islamic world.
