Shab-e-Barat Teaches Self-Accountability: Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri

Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, spoke on the virtues and spiritual grandeur of Shab-e-Barat, and said that it is a magnificent and luminous night in which Allah Almighty (ﷻ) opens the doors of His boundless mercy. This night, he said, is dedicated to worship, repentance, turning back to Allah, and self-accountability.

He stated that on this night, the deeds of the servants are presented, decisions regarding sustenance, lifespan, and matters of destiny are decreed, and the Most Merciful Lord grants forgiveness of sins through His فضل (grace). He added that Shab-e-Barat provides an excellent opportunity for a person to return to Allah, repent from sins, and realign their life toward righteousness.

Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that by spending this night in worship, supplication, remembrance of Allah, and seeking forgiveness, one can attain the pleasure and closeness of Allah Almighty.
Shaykh-ul-Islam further said that Shab-e-Barat teaches human beings to evaluate their deeds and purify their hearts from negative traits such as jealousy, malice, resentment, and hatred, and to sincerely return to obedience and servitude to Allah. This night is a night of renewing goodness and reforming one’s state and character.

Advising the Muslim Ummah, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri urged that instead of wasting this blessed night in futile engagements and unnecessary activities, it should be spent in the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, voluntary prayers, sending blessings and salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ, remembrance of Allah, and supplications.

He emphasized that the true message of Shab-e-Barat is that Allah Almighty grants His servants opportunities for forgiveness; therefore, every Muslim should sincerely repent and seek goodness and success in both this world and the Hereafter.
