At the 4th International Maritime Conference (IMC’26) held at Minhaj University Lahore, Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Deputy Chairman, BOG, Minhaj University Lahore delivered a comprehensive keynote address on the evolving global maritime landscape and Pakistan’s strategic pathway within the Blue Economy framework.
In his address, he highlighted that over 80% of global merchandise trade moves through maritime routes, yet the sector is facing unprecedented challenges including geopolitical volatility, supply chain disruptions, carbon pricing mechanisms, and regulatory fragmentation. He emphasized that resilience, sustainability, and policy coherence are essential to navigating this new maritime era.
Referring to Pakistan’s Maritime Vision 2047 and the “Maritime at 100” strategy, he underscored the need to strengthen ports, shipping capacity, fisheries, and coastal industrialization while ensuring environmental stewardship. He also introduced the concept of an Islamic Blue Economy, advocating innovative financing tools such as Blue Sukuk and integrating ethical principles like Amana (stewardship) into sustainable ocean governance.
The address concluded with a strong call to transform potential into progress and align Pakistan’s Green and Blue Economy ambitions with long-term sustainability and strategic foresight.
