Natural Calamities Should Be Seen as an Opportunity for Reform: Professor Dr. Hassan Qadri

Professor Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, speaking at an intellectual session held at the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran, stated that natural disasters and hardships should be seen as an opportunity for reform. He emphasized that true repentance can transform floods and rains into beneficial occurrences through the power of Allah. He mentioned the incident where the sea parted for Prophet Moses (PBUH) and his followers, but Pharaoh and his followers drowned in the same sea.

Dr. Hassan Qadri explained that the purpose of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) mission was to refine human ethics and character and to guide people away from sinful lives. He further explained that when vile morals prevail, disasters descend from the heavens, disrupting the balance of social, economic, and societal systems. Despite the vast resources available to the Muslim Ummah today, they continue to face fear, instability, dissatisfaction, and natural calamities.

He noted that the Muslim world is currently plagued by insecurity, unemployment, poverty, hunger, and the fear of unknown enemies. However, there seems to be no genuine effort to reform. He added that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged good character in every aspect of life and prohibited any behavior that led to disobedience to Allah, prevented the fulfillment of obligations, and caused corruption in the hearts.

Dr. Hassan Qadri pointed out that floods come every year, millions lose their possessions, and in an instant, the wealthy are left on the streets. In times of hardship, people cry out and pray, but how many truly make a firm commitment to reform and return to Allah after such trials? He recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, businesses collapsed, people died from diseases, and fear and despair spread. He asked, “After the pandemic ended, how many truly repented and decided to abandon a sinful life?”

Dr. Hassan Qadri concluded that as long as we do not turn to Allah, repent from our sins, and strive for true reform, natural disasters and calamities will continue, and the fear of enemies will keep disturbing our peace
